Our ministry consists of young men and women from our parish who are willing to serve at the Table of the Lord. Altar servers are chosen from volunteer candidates in our parish who have already received their First Holy Communion and are physically able to carry such heavy objects as the crucifix and Sacramentary (The Book). They must be willing to serve at Mass on Saturday evenings and Sunday mornings, with the opportunity to serve at weddings, funerals, novenas, Stations of the Cross and other liturgical occasions. Altar serving is a prestigious and important position for youth, dating back to over one thousand years before Christ when young Samuel served in the Temple with Eli the priest. We are continuing this blessed tradition of Samuel, who eventually dedicated his entire life to serving God and living by God's Word. The training of new server candidates is an ongoing activity. Interested candidates should stop by the parish office and complete an application. When we have a number of interested candidates, we will schedule the training and installation. You will notified by mail of the training sessions and the installation mass date. Candidates must attend all training sessions in order to be installed into the ministry. After the candidates have been trained, an installation mass is scheduled at which time the candidates are installed into this ministry.
Each server schedule covers a 13 week period and each server is assigned 3 to 4 masses on average for each schedule. Three servers are assigned for each weekend mass. Servers are given a handbook during their training and both servers and parents are instructed as to their obligations.
To be in this ministry to serve the Lord and His people--- is a privilege and not a right!
